Correct lifting of the car

Lift

The standard equipment of the Golf is a screw jack. With it, the car can be raised high enough to do most of the work. Placing a thick board under the lift (Ok. 30 x 30 cm) prevents it from sinking into the ground and slightly increases the lifting height. This jack is only intended for lifting the car. It must not be used as a support for work under the car.

Lifting the vehicle

The car should be on a hard surface, flat ground. Before starting work, it is worth emptying the trunk.

Apply the emergency brake and at least one koto (on the opposite side to the lifted) secure with wooden wedges or stones against rolling. Don't just rely on the emergency brake, because some jobs require him to be released.

The standard jack and tools are housed in the spare kit recess. Turn the jack crank to the operating position and make a few turns.

Position the jack diagonally at the marked point on the sill. The groove on the jack head must be fully seated in the seat in the sill (see photo).

Remark! The jack may only be used at the designated point. The thresholds are additionally reinforced in these places. Press the elevator head against the sill with your left hand, and turn the right crank clockwise. Look after, prevent the lift from tilting to the side. If you are using a mobile hydraulic jack, the beam must be placed underneath, distributing the pressure on the threshold.

Before you raise the car to the desired height, make sure again, that the lift is straight. If it is not, restart the entire operation. The car should only be raised to the height necessary for the work.

The jack stand may only be used at the reinforced points of the chassis. Place a hard rubber or board between the tray and the support, to distribute the pressure. Be sure to make sure you are on the stand before placing it on the stand, there is no joining of sheets in this place, which can become deformed, or brake hoses.

The most stable positioning of the supports is then achieved, when two of its three legs point under the car, and the third one outside. Pay attention to this when supporting the car, otherwise it can happen, that the support on the opposite side of the car will extend when it is lifted.

Supports
Who wants to work under the car must rest it on stands. Even for small jobs, e.g.. replacement of friction inserts, always support the car after it has been raised. It is forbidden to lie down under the car leaning only on the jack, without support on supports. It may lead to a fatal accident!

After sliding the support under the car, slide the bracket to the desired height and secure it with a pin in the lowest available hole. Now carefully lower the car, making sure, that the support is stable.
