Brake caliper repair
■ Drain the brake fluid from the reservoir.
■ Remove the caliper body (see description in the previous section) and deduct the hose from the rigid one in the wheel well.
■ Inspect the removed clamp. A damaged piston skirt must be replaced. The piston can be removed from the body, by blowing it out with compressed air supplied through the brake hose. If the piston is seized or shows signs of wear, the clamp must be replaced. To check, that the breather is not obstructed. For cleaning metal parts, it is recommended to use a solution of warm water and Fiat LCD. Lubricate all parts with brake fluid before assembling.
■ Install the clamp in the reverse order. Finally, fill the system and bleed air.
Replace the brake disc
In the installed state, the runout of the brake disc must not exceed 0,1 mm. A scratched disc can be rolled, however, its thickness after processing may not be less than 9,7 mm. Shields, which has reached its limit thickness 9 mm, must be replaced. The working surfaces of the disc in the place of contact with the friction inserts should be parallel to each other, with a deviation 0,05 mm. Discs should always be replaced in pairs.
■ Remove the clamp and the friction inserts (the body of the clamp remains connected to the conductor),.
■ Unscrew the caliper socket from the knuckle.
■ Unscrew the two bolts securing the disc to the hub. Remove the shield, if necessary, use a welt.
■ Clean the contact surface on the hub and fit a new disc, already peeled off.
■ Install the brake caliper with new friction inserts.
