The replacement of the circuit breaker contacts and the adjustment of the spacing between them is carried out as follows.
■ Remove the cover above the ignition distributor.
■ Remove the manifold cap, by releasing the springs or unscrewing the screws.
■ Remove the distributor finger from the shaft.
■ Disconnect the clamp, to which the green wire from the ignition coil is connected.
■ Remove the screw that secures the circuit breaker plate.
■ By lifting the hammer and anvil, remove them from the manifold.
■ Clean the distributor shaft cam, then coat it lightly with bearing grease.
■ Install new hammer and anvil.
■ Check, that the hammer turns slightly on the axis and that both contacts are at the same height in relation to each other.
■ Loosely install the screw securing the circuit breaker plate.
■ Reconnect the electric cable.
With the hammer fully pushed back, the contact gap should be 0,4 mm. Turn on 4. the 5. run and roll the car around, for the greatest distance between the contacts. Measure this distance with a feeler gauge and adjust it, by moving the circuit breaker plate with a screwdriver. Tighten the screw and check the gap again.
In order to accurately set the circuit breaker contacts, their short-circuit angle should be measured,
The ignition distributor is replaced as follows
■ Remove the cover above the ignition distributor, then the dome.
■ Remove the distributor finger and the cover located underneath which protects the contacts from the capacitor.
■ Engage a gear and then roll the car, so that the notch on the pulley aligns with the mark on the timing cover (see fig. 2.73). The distributor finger should then point to the notch on the edge of the ignition apparatus housing (opposite the vacuum regulator).
■ On the base of the distributor, unscrew the screw of the fastening plate and remove the cover.
■ Detach the electric cable from the clamp and disconnect the cable leading to the vacuum regulator. Remove the manifold, and close the opening with a clean cloth.
The ignition distributor is installed in the reverse order. If the original oil pump wheel alignment is to be retained, the finger must point slightly further when inserting the divider, towards the engine, from the notch on the distributor housing. Finally, set the ignition carefully.
