Peugeot 207Contrary to the numerical designation Peugeot 207 it did not replace the well-known model 206. Produced from 1998 r. the car stayed longer on sale – so that the offer in the segment of small and urban cars remains as wide as possible. The front with a large and well-exposed company badge and a powerful air intake is easy to confuse even with the front of the model 307 after facelift. The rear resembles a slightly modified "206". Associations with the latter are not afraid of the designers themselves – boldly admit, that the body shapes are inspired by the rally version of the "206", or Peugeot 206 WRC.
Model 207 however, it is longer than its older brother by 20 cm, and the standard "platform 1" used within the PSA group by Peugeot and Citroen was slightly modified for the needs of this model – wheelbase increased by 8 cm, and track width by 3 cm. This first fix allowed for more space in the cabin, the second is to ensure better driving stability. Peugeot 207 is in two body styles as 3- and 5-door hatchback. A huge windshield and a low line of windows make, that the interior of the car seems spacious. Actually, at least to the driver's workplace – both in terms of the amount of space, as well as ergonomics (maybe apart from too small and difficult to access backrest adjustment lever) – I have no objections. For the person occupying the right seat, however, there is quite little space for the feet., and tall passengers of the couch – regardless of the number of doors – complain about little headroom. Luggage compartment with capacity 240 l has a regular shape, although its lower edge is quite high above the ground – that's partly why, that under the floor of the trunk there is space for a full-size spare wheel. The sofa is divided in proportion 1/3:2/3. When folding the backrests, the seat rises vertically behind the backrests of the front seats, but despite this, the floor of the cargo space is not flat. The trunk then gains volume 923 l.
The front seats are contoured quite deeply. Pseudo-cup seats mounted in Sport variants, Sport Pack and GT will satisfy even the most fastidious amateurs of sports climate. In the richer versions, the factory equipment will also include individual armrests of the front seats. As a standard or option – depending on the variety – such amenities are also available, like cruise control with speed limiter, tire pressure drop detection system or parking assistant connected to the display.
In the cabin we will find several practical storage compartments. The largest of them located in front of the passenger seat has a capacity 12,2 l and in versions with air conditioning is cooled. In addition, there is a shelf for small items placed above, two cup holders and one for a credit card, troughs on the central tunnel and pockets in the doors and backrests of the front seats. An interesting fact is the odour sprayer built into the central supply air. The buyer of a car equipped with this convenience has a choice of two fragrances from seven (one with anti-tobacco properties). Audio options start with a simple radio with a CD and six speakers, and end with a radio with a five-CD changer known from larger luxury Peugeot models, GSM phone, navigation and eight speakers (plus one woofer).
Peugeot cares about safety – travelers and pedestrians. Double reinforcements protect the cab both in the event of a frontal impact, as well as lateral. Four airbags are offered in each version, in richer varieties there are curtains (in the poorer for an extra charge).
Pedestrians are primarily protected by the free space between the mask and mechanical elements, allowing for controlled deflection of the sheet at impact.
We have a wide range of engines for the model 207 – three petrol and diesel engines, and two units developed jointly with BMW. The first one is a turbocharged motor 1.6 with power 150 KM and maximum torque 240 Nm and similar – naturally aspirated – with variable valve timing (moc 115 KM, moment 160 Nm). Until then, the most powerful petrol will be 1.6 110 KM, the palm of precedence among diesels will be held 1.6 HDI110 hp with particulate filter. All available with manual transmissions, while amateurs of automated transmissions will have no choice – only a car with a gasoline engine 1.4 90 KM was offered with the 2-Tronic transmission. In suspension, no special revolution was sought, although the manufacturer boasts of the front wishbones with increased stiffness and the torsion beam at the rear with reduced weight and dimensions. Steering is equipped with electric power steering, brake (ventilated discs with a diameter from 266 do 283 mm, drums or discs with a diameter on the back 249 mm) – in ABS and EBD electronic brake force distribution system with EBA emergency brake assist. Depending on the variety, ESP is available. The system can be turned off, but after speeding 50 km/h automatic activation will take place.
