The first generation Audi A4 is very popular in the used car market. It is a prestigious car, which can be purchased at a reasonable price.
There are many used A4 models on the market, but selling them does not pose any major problems. This is partly because of the fact, that by many the A4 is considered the "third" car in the competition between small sports limousines from Germany. The remaining – BMW series 3 and Mercedes C-class enjoy a slightly better opinion. Is deservedly? This can be discussed, but a side effect is the prices of the used A4, slightly lower than competitors.
The Audi A4 replaced the worn-out Audi model 80/90 in the fall 1994 r. The A4 has a longitudinally positioned drive unit. Contrary to the mentioned competitors, the drive is transferred to the front wheels either (in most varieties for an additional charge) on four wheels. The Quattro version of the A4 model has an inter-axle Torsen differential.
There are many drive units to choose from, starting with gasoline engines with a capacity of. 1,6 l (101 KM), 1,8 l (125, 150 the 180 KM), 2,0 l (130 KM), 2,4 l (165 KM), 2,6 l (150 KM), 2,8 l (174, 193 KM), and ending with turbo-diesels with a capacity. 1,9 l (90,110,116 the 130 KM) relatively 2,5 l (150 KM). In addition to economical diesel engines with a fairly low work culture, petrol ones deserve attention, twenty-valve engines with a capacity of. 1,8 l equipped
into a turbocharger. These versions, marked 1.8T achieve power 150 the \180 KM and are very popular, due to its good performance and relatively low operating costs. From 1997 r. A sports version of the S4 was also produced, with a V6 engine with a capacity. 2,7 l and two turbochargers, reaching power 265 KM, and from 1999 r. an exclusive variation of the RS4 with a 380 hp engine, only available as a combi.
Among the faults of the A4, the owners first mention failures of the delicate suspension components. Less often, but there are problems with the electrical installation, and serious engine malfunctions, however, the A4 model is not a particularly emergency car. A possible drawback is the small amount of space on the rear seat (but it is no different from the competition), and the advantage of the extensive equipment of the majority of copies.
1995: The A4 Avant arrives in the fall (combi).
1997: The premiere of the S4 sports model (station wagon in sedan).
1999: 380-horse-drawn station wagon called RS4. 1999: Audi A4 is subject to restyling, the 1.8T engine now has power 150 the 180 KM.
Wear of the suspension components (m.in. front wishbones, stabilizer links and tie-rod ends). Problems with the electrical installation, engine failures (np. turbochargers in copies 1.8 Turbo or TDI subjected to amateur chip tuning).
